History Bites: Lost & Gone: Oregon’s Vanished Structures

Join the Albany Regional Museum as we host our first in-person lecture in over a year. This month we have Richard Engeman speaking on Oregon’s Vanished Structures. This lecture will be on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021 at Noon. Free to attend, donations appreciated. Below is more information about the talk and our presenter.

What did we build in Oregon? This illustrated talk shows some of the many amazing structures that have now vanished from our landscape, from cedar plank houses to wigwam burners, public markets to tourist camps. What was, and what is, distinctive about this place called Oregon?  How about Albany?

Richard Engeman was born in Albany, but his parents moved when he was an infant; he finally returned to Albany in 2015. A retired academic librarian and historian, he has worked for the University of Washington Libraries and the Oregon Historical Society. Richard is the author of a historical gazetteer, The Oregon Companion, the Oregon cookbook Eating It Up in Eden, and a number of historical articles and encyclopedia entries. He and his spouse, Terry, live in the Monteith historic district with several cats and a wild garden.
