Albany Regional Museum is offering two Albany History Walking Tours on Saturday, May 8, at 10:30 am or 1:30 pm starting at the Museum, 136 Lyon Street S.
The walking history tours will be narrated by Bill Maddy, Albany Regional Museum Docent and Albany Historian. The theme of this year’s tour is the Takenah Story. For a few years, the town we know today as Albany was called Takenah. The walking tour will feature the Hackleman District and the role it played in the name Takenah and how the Hackleman District’s people, places and politics shaped the history and development of Takenah and the present-day city of Albany.
These tours will be outdoors on public sidewalks not maintained by the Museum. Unfortunately, these tours are not wheelchair friendly. COVID regulations will be followed including 6-foot distancing between parties and masks are required.
Registration is required to reserve a tour time slot as space is limited. Fee for the tour is $5 per party/group (maximum 6 persons per party). Registration deadline is May 3rd. To make a reservation, contact the Albany Regional Museum at 541-967-7122
